KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) authorities say flooding on the south coast has caused significant damage in the town of Margate.
Emergency teams were on site on Monday, assessing the situation.
Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs department spokesperson, Siboniso Mngadi: “Businesses and public infrastructure such as roads and houses have been severely damaged. No injuries or fatalities have been confirmed to us at this stage.”
The inclement weather looks set to continue on Monday, with a level 5 warning having been issued for what’s expected to be disruptive rains.
“We warn the public to be vigilant of this inclement weather, and also make precautionary measures to ensure we don’t lose lives during this period. We advise motorists to avoid travelling during this period until the weather is cleared up.”
