The Game has taken a shot at J. Cole for apologizing to Kendrick Lamar and what he perceives as “watered down” rap feuds. The Compton native, who is no stranger to beef having sparred with the likes of 50 Cent, JAY-Z, Meek Mill, and Eminem, was reacting to a post from The Joe Budden Podcast co-host Lamar “Ice” Burney.
“I want one of these rap n-ggas to diss Game. Just so ya’ll see what a proper diss record looks like,” Ice wrote on X (formerly Twitter) following the release of Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss song “Euphoria.”
The Game, who has collaborated with Cole, Kendrick, and Drake, responded by reminding fans of his pedigree when it comes to rap beef.
“Cause my level of disrespect has no limit & I can rap rap,” he wrote. “Fans gone choose up with whatever artist is currently safe for the culture to love as a whole but every real rap nigga in this shit KNOW who to play with & who not to.
“Hip hop/Rap or whatever yall calling it these days was already watered down, then Cole apologized and turned this shit into Kool-Aid with no sugar.”
He also said on his Instagram Stories: “Idk who softer these days these rap n-ggas or the rap fans.”
The Game previously weighed in on the long-running rivalry between Drake and Kendrick Lamar during an interview with HipHopDX in 2022.
Addressing the notion that the 6 God took shots at K. Dot on their collaboration “100,” he said: “I didn’t feel like that. And if I did, I wouldn’t have put the song out. Like I said, Kendrick’s my brother — I love him too. But if Drake was subliminal and slipped something in, again, he’s one of the best to ever do it, so it’s Hip Hop.
“Even Kendrick is lyrically equipped to catch any stray and return fire, so I think at the end of the day, it’s all good Hip Hop. It ain’t like Kendrick and Drake are about to go into a street war or something like that.”
When asked who would win in a rap battle, he replied: “Who I got? Lyrically? I don’t know, man. Kendrick is just too fucking incredible. And then Drake is so dope too, man. I mean, I would just like to be a fan of the moment and sit back and watch two of the greatest artists of all time have a go.”
The Game is also far from the only rap figure to take issue with J. Cole for apologizing to Kendrick for dissing him on “7 Minute Drill,” which came in response to the Pulitzer Prize winner’s fiery verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That.”
His former G-Unit label boss 50 Cent also seemed unimpressed by the Dreamville rap star bowing out of the battle, writing on Instagram: “WTF how I miss this, @realcoleworld call my phone right now!”
