Talented Zimdancehall artist Mbida D has been freed by the Harare Magistrates’ Court today in a fraud case he was facing.
The Fraud Allegations Against The Zimdancehall Star
Mbida D, born Tawanda Madondo, was arrested in April on fraud allegations after a promoter accused him of pulling a no-show.
Benjamin Gororo contracted Mbida D to perform at his nightclub on March 30, 2024, in Dzivarasekwa. The two parties formalised the agreement on March 20, with Mbida receiving a deposit of US$100. The understanding was that Gororo would pay the balance after the performance. However, the musician failed to appear on the agreed date and became evasive.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) caught Mbida D and arrested him on 25 April after receiving a tip-off regarding his whereabouts.
Mbida D appeared before the Harare provincial magistrate, Jacqueline Gara, facing fraud charges. He was granted bail set at US$40.

Mbida D Finally Freed
After nearly a month of running to and fro the Court, the Zimdancehall musician is now free.
His trial had been ongoing, and the State closed its case earlier today. Magistrate Jacqueline Gara discharged Mbida D after finding that the case was “purely civil.” The Court also ruled that the State Prosecution failed to produce sufficient corroborating evidence and essential elements to prove fraud.
After being set free, Mbida D posed for photos outside the Court building with his lawyers, smiling gleefully.
Zimbos shared their reactions online after Mbida attained freedom.
