CAPS United Assistant Coach Nelson Matongorere Has Died

CAPS United assistant coach and former ZIFA Technical Director Nelson Matongorere has died.

Matongorere’s Extensive Coaching Career

Matongorere was a veteran CAF instructor with an extensive coaching career. In addition to his role as assistant coach for CAPS United, he previously served as the Technical Director for the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).

Beyond his club duties, Matongorere also held coaching positions with the national youth teams, including the Under-17, Under-20, and Under-23 squads. Furthermore, in March 2002, he was appointed as the assistant coach for the Zimbabwe national football team, working alongside head coach Wiesław Grabowski.

Matongorere’s expertise was further recognized in 2009, when he was appointed as a FIFA instructor of coaching. This came after he successfully completed the Futuro Level Three coaching course held in Swaziland in September 2008. Out of the 12 instructors from the SADC region who attended the course, Matongorere was one of only five recommended by FIFA to become a regional instructor.

Nelson Matongorere’s sudden and untimely death has touched the hearts of many. He has been widely described as a good and humble man.

Social media users have argued that Matongorere had a huge passion for the game of football. They opined that he was one of the best coaches in Zimbabwe. His passing is going to leave a significant void within the country’s football fraternity.
