City Power has commended the police for their intervention in dealing with the theft and vandalism of electricity infrastructure following the arrest of 22 suspects.
The suspects were arrested this week for theft and damage to essential infrastructure in different parts of the metro.
Earlier in May, the utility wrote to the National Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola, calling for more police visibility to prevent the ongoing damage to essential infrastructure.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said this had proven to be effective: “The entity’s efforts against vandalism and cable theft, and vandalism of electricity infrastructure demonstrate how much more can be done when the utility collaborates with law enforcement, and the community to solve this problem that often leaves residents without power for prolonged periods.”
