Eleph Khumbula Gula-Ndebele granted bail


Former Attorney General Sobusa Gula-Ndebele’’s son, Eleph Khumbula Gula-Ndebele, has been granted bail after he was arrested over the weekend for allegations of drug possession after he was caught with cocaine in his car.

On May 25, 2024, Eleph Khumbula Gula-Ndebele, aged 39, appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court, facing charges related to the possession of a dangerous substance.Gula-Ndebele, who is also a lawyer, was implicated in dealing dangerous drugs by a victim of drug abuse, Tsitsi Vundla, who was arrested in March 2024.

Law enforcement officers raided his residence, suspecting the presence of illegal drugs. Upon arrival, the police identified themselves and proceeded to search both Gula-Ndebele and his property.

Discovery of Suspected Cocaine On The Premises

During the search, detectives discovered a sachet of a substance believed to be cocaine concealed within the door panel of Gula-Ndebele’s black Volkswagen Polo. The confiscated material was taken for testing.

Subsequent field tests confirmed that the substance was indeed cocaine, weighing approximately 1 gram. The estimated street value of the cocaine was pegged at ZIG$390.

Also arrested were Talent Mapanga, Takunda Godoka, Tanaka Chimuka, Tapiwa Mutebuka and Sam Chasaya.

Gula-Ndebele’s Legal Proceedings and Bail Conditions

Following his arrest, Gula-Ndebele was brought to the CID Drugs and Narcotics Department for processing. Two days later, on May 27, 2024, he was granted bail by the court.

The bail conditions set forth required Gula-Ndebele to surrender his passport and post a US$200 bond with the court clerk. Additionally, he was mandated to report to the nearest police station every Friday until the case is resolved and to avoid any interaction with potential witnesses.
