Students of University of Limpopo hope funding will be addressed after polls

Some University of Limpopo students are hoping that the next administration will address issues surrounding student funding.

They are among thousands of undergraduates who were left stranded after they were defunded by NSFAS late last year.

The publication spent time engaging young people at the university, as they prepare to cast their ballots on Wednesday.

Over 45,000 students were defunded by NSFAS last year for submitting incorrect information during the application process.

University of Limpopo student, Rehangwele Nengovhela, said that this is one of the major reasons that pushed him to vote.

“I’m one of the students who are not funded, that’s one of the difficulties that I’m having here at the University of Limpopo. So, we have many difficulties and things we have to sort out.”

Another student, Rejoice Mampuru, said that despite qualifying for student funding, her application was rejected.

“I’ll be voting tomorrow and hopefully I’ll go to school for free. I can’t afford my fees because I don’t have parents. So, I just hope that things will be different.”

NSFAS previously admitted that some students were defunded incorrectly and remedial action would be taken to refund them.
