Wicknell Chivayo’s Company Unveils Starlink Kit and Data Prices in Zimbabwe

Zimbabweans from across all walks of life were over the moon following the announcement that Starlink was finally licenced to operate in the country.

Zimbabweans now have a glimpse of the prices and internet speeds they can expect once Starlink begins operations.

When Will Starlink Start Operating in Zimbabwe

According to Dr Gift Machengete, Director General of the Postal & Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), Starlink will start operating between July and September.

Elon Musk’s company is partnering with flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo’s IMC Communications for its introduction.

Starlink Kit, Data Prices and Internet Speeds in Zimbabwe

Zimbabweans interested in Starlink will need to fork out US$650 for the initial kit. The monthly subscription plans are as follows:

•  US$38 for 50Mbps
• US$45 for 100Mbps
• US$85 for 1000Mbps

Starlink Packages Explained

• Starlink Standard: This entry-level package is ideal for home connections.
• Starlink Priority: Recommended for faster internet or business use, this plan offers three different priority data options, each at a higher cost.
• Starlink Mobile: Designed for RVs, campers, and travellers, this option requires specifying whether you are travelling regionally or globally and requires you to be stationary while using it.
• Starlink Mobile Priority: The most luxurious plan, suitable for boats and mobile businesses, allowing connection while in motion.

POTRAZ Dismisses Reports It’s Reversing Chivayo Deal

In even more Starlink-related news, POTRAZ has dismissed as fake a statement alleging that the regulatory body learned through social media about President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s approval of Starlink’s licensing. The false notice also claimed that POTRAZ was trying to reverse the contract given to Wicknell Chivayo’s IMC Communications.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, POTRAZ set the record straight saying:

“Potraz would like to advise the public that the notice below dated 28 May 2024 and purportedly signed by @Potraz_zw Director General Dr G. K Machengete is FAKE. We also sternly warn the public to desist from generating and peddling fake news.”
