Kwazulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has issued a stern warning to political parties to refrain from violence following the elections.
Mkhwanazi briefed the media at the IEC results operation centre in Durban on Friday.
He revealed that 24 people were arrested in the province for election-related offences.
Mkhwanazi didn’t mince his words, cautioning political leaders to let better heads prevail.
“There is always going to be a winner and there is always going to be someone losing. So, they shouldn’t be bad losers and they know there are options if they are not satisfied. When they take it to the street, they are going to find us on the street and it’s not going to end well, so let them follow the law.”
He said that of the 24 people arrested for election-related incidents, three remained in custody while the others had been released on bail.
