Murisi Zwizwai’s Cause of Death Revealed
Friends of the CCC senator revealed that a few days ago, he had complained of a bad bout of flu.
The Member of Parliament for Kuwadzana, Charlton Hwende, told ZimLive:
“He was complaining of flue since Wednesday and got worse on Friday and his wife took him to the hospital around 7PM. He was admitted and sadly passed on around 3AM.”
Complicated Political Career
Murisi Zwizwai was one of the founding members of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). Former CCC President Nelson Chamisa confirmed this in his condolence message:
“Have learnt with deep sadness on the passing of Hon Murisi Zwizwai in the early hours of this morning [1 June]. We worked together from the early days of the struggle for change and freedom in Zimbabwe. He was affable, jocular, generous and jovial. My prayers are with the family and friends. RIP Murambwi.”
In 2003, Zwizwai became the Harare Central Member of Parliament after a by-election that replaced Mike Auret, who resigned due to illness. This would signal the beginning of Zwizwai’s four terms in parliament. He was elected in 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2022.
During the Government of National Unity (GNU), he was the Deputy Minister of Media, Information and Publicity.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesman George Charamba mourned:
“He was an excellent deputy minister of information under the government of national unity (2009-2013), and during my time at the ministry. We worked very well, even as we belonged to different parties.”
When Nelson Chamisa broke away from the MDC and formed the CCC in 2022, Zwizwai was one of the founding politicians. He contested in the 2022 by-elections and won the Harare Central seat.
Murisi Zwizwai And Sengezo Tshabangu
At the time of his death, Zwizwai was one of five candidates that Sengezo Tshabangu nominated in April to fill vacancies in the Zimbabwean Senate. These vacancies arose after Tshabangu recalled five Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) senators, after he claims to be the interim secretary-general of the CCC party.
Mourners are gathered at 8 Tayfield Road in Waterfalls.
