Defence Minister, Thandi Modise, has appealed to political parties to respect the constitution as the Electoral Commission (IEC) is expected to announce the general elections results shortly.
Modise was speaking at the Justice, Crime, Prevention and Security Cluster’s Ministerial briefing in Pretoria. Twenty-five political parties have lodged objections with the commission. Modise says parties should respect the law.
“We are hoping that our plea to all parties will be heard by everybody involved. Those who have seen and those who have not will equally be affected by the same, so we do not think we want to have a conversation with one individual party. We are requesting South Africans to respect the laws of South Africa.”
2024 Election| Modise calls on political parties to respect the constitution: The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) have sent out a stern warning to those who might want to retaliate with lawlessness if they are not satisfied with the election outcome.
NATJOINTS and the the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster emphasised that any attempts to undermine the authority of the state will not be tolerated. The ministers also confirmed that they will not hold any special engagements with political parties, even the ones that might issue threats.
