The Phala Phala dispute is being threatened by certain parties to be revisited in Parliament.
After some parties threatened to revisit the matter, the controversial Phala Phala saga may return to haunt President Cyril Ramaphosa in Parliament.
The threats were issued subsequent to the African National Congress (ANC)’s failure to achieve an absolute majority in the most recent general elections.
On Sunday evening, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC)’s Results Operation Centre in Midrand announced the election results.
Ramaphosa may be confronted with an additional unpleasant surprise when Parliament commences its operations under the seventh democratic administration, following the ANC’s substantial defeat at the polls.
Ramaphosa is accused of concealing the theft of millions of rands in proceeds from his game estate in Limpopo.
In 2023, he evaded an impeachment process when his party closed ranks in Parliament, thereby shielding him from the necessity of providing an account to legislators regarding the events of Phala Phala.
Nevertheless, Pieter Groenewald, the leader of Freedom Front (FF) Plus, stated that these elections had rendered the ANC vulnerable.
“I’m going to request that the panel report on the Phala Phala issue must be re-introduced in the National Assembly.”
The Office of the Public Protector and the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) conducted numerous inquiries regarding Ramaphosa’s involvement; however, they ultimately cleared him of any culpability.
