A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck the Hualien region of Taiwan recently, followed closely by several other quakes. The initial tremor occurred at 5:08 p.m. local time, with the epicenter located 26.8 kilometers south-southwest of Hualien County Hall at a depth of 10 kilometers. This earthquake was felt across various regions, including Taipei and New Taipei City​.

Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration reported that following the 5.5 magnitude quake, there were subsequent tremors, including a 5.3 magnitude quake and multiple 4.9 magnitude aftershocks. These events caused level 4 intensity shaking in Hualien and Nantou counties​ (Taiwan News)​. Despite the intensity of these quakes, no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage were recorded.

This series of earthquakes is part of a pattern of seismic activity in Taiwan, which frequently experiences such events due to its location at the junction of two tectonic plates.
