GMA says process of appointing new Gautrain partner underway

The Gautrain Management Agency (GMA) said the process of appointing a new Gautrain partner was underway.

The agency signed the agreement with the current operator, the Bombela Consortium, in 2006.

The 20-year concession comes to an end in March 2026. The agency opened the floor for new bids in 2023.

The spokesperson for the GMA, Albi Modise, said the project would continue to unlock economic potential and opportunities post-2026.

“The new delivery partner will operate, maintain, modernise, innovate, and upgrade the current Gautrain system so that it continues to provide a safe, efficient, and reliable public transport service.

“As we mark the 14th anniversary of Gautrain’s launch, and in a year that South Africa marks 30 years of democracy and freedom, the Gautrain has proven to be one of the successful projects under the democratic dispensation, as well as for the transport sector.”
