NSFAS pleads with private student accommodation landlords not to evict students with outstanding payments

Following months of non-payment, student funding scheme, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has pleaded with private student accommodation landlords not to evict students with outstanding payments.

The funder has been at the centre of a number of corruption and maladministration allegations over the past few years.

In a bid to provide what he called much-needed relief to landlords, NSFAS administrator, Freeman Nomvalo, said that the scheme was making bulk payments to the landlords as part of its interventions.

“The NSFAS administrator pleads with landlords who still have outstanding payments not to evict students as NSFAS is committed to ensuring that all legitimate claims are resolved not later than the 18th of June 2024,” said spokesperson, Ishmael Mnisi.

Mnisi added that the window for landlords with outstanding claims was still open.

“Landlords who did not submit their claims for outstanding payments are still encouraged to refer their queries to our dedicated email address, [email protected].”
