KZN SASSA says it is implementing measures to support relief efforts in tornado-hit oThongathi

As relief efforts continue in oThongathi, north of Durban, following Monday’s tornado, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in KwaZulu-Natal said it would also be joining efforts.

The social security agency in the province said it already deployed teams to conduct assessments.

While relief efforts have started, thousands are still destitute.

“SASSA is implementing measures to support the relief efforts. These measures include distributing hot meals, blankets, vanity packs, baby hampers, and other essential supplies to affected families,” said SASSA spokesperson Sandy Gondwana.

She added that they would be helping learners who have lost their belongings.

“SASSA is ready to also provide school uniforms to learners who lost their belongings as a result of the disaster.”
