Gauteng police have arrested 45 suspects for alleged cyber crimes during a special operation at a house in Sandton, Johannesburg.
Police from the Gauteng Organised Crime Investigation Unit pounced on the house following a tip-off on Friday.
On arrival, officers found thousands of counterfeit SIM cards from all major cellphone providers in a garage and backroom.
Technicians from some of the mobile networks were called to the scene where they confirmed that the SIM cards were fake.
“Forty-three suspected illegal immigrants and two South Africans were arrested,” said Police Spokesperson Mavela Masondo.
“They are facing charges that include the Contravention of Cyber Crime Act, Fraud, and illegal immigration.”
