Passion Link Coaches Bus License Revoked by Government After Fatal Fire Kills 8 Anglican Pilgrims

In a swift response to a horrific accident, the government has revoked the operating license of Passion Link Coaches.

This comes after a devastating incident on Sunday evening when one of the company’s buses caught fire, tragically killing eight members of the Anglican Diocese of Manicaland.

Fatal Blaze Near Gandanzara

The deadly blaze occurred near Gandanzara Business Centre, about 44 kilometers along the Nyabadza-Gandanzara Road. The victims were returning from a pilgrimage at the Bernard Mzeki shrine in Marondera, heading back to their rural homes in Sherukuru, Mutasa District, Manicaland Province.

Mechanical Failures and Fireball Horror

According to a police report, the bus had been experiencing mechanical problems throughout the journey, including a faulty clutch. As they approached the 26km mark on the road, passengers noticed smoke emanating from the bus engine. Alerting the driver, Ray Donald Mugari (40), they hoped for a quick resolution.

The driver stopped the bus and opened the engine cover located inside the bus, near the passenger door. In a horrifying turn of events, a fireball erupted from the engine, rapidly engulfing the entire vehicle.

Desperate Escape and Tragic Loss

Amid the chaos, the driver and some passengers managed to escape through the door and emergency exit windows. However, eight individuals were trapped inside and perished in the flames. Eleven others sustained injuries, with three in critical condition.

Government’s Swift Action

In response to the tragedy, the government has taken decisive action against Passion Link Coaches. The bus company’s operating permit has been immediately canceled, and an investigation into the incident has been launched.
