Julius Malema says there’s racism at play in his firearm discharge case

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema said that there is racism at play in his firearm discharge case.

Malema and his bodyguard, Adriaan Snyman, are on trial in the East London Magistrates Court on various charges linked to a 2018 rally at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane.

Malema is accused of firing a live weapon that Snyman allegedly gave him, on stage.

They both pleaded not guilty arguing that the supposed firearm was in fact a toy gun.

Malema took the stand on Wednesday afternoon, stressing that on the day in question, no concern was expressed over the incident.

“If life was in danger and the life of human beings was in danger they were going to go for cover. But because they’re black they’re so bastardised you don’t care about their reaction because even if it’s live ammunition they’ll never go for cover because they’re animals. That’s the insinuation I’ve been here listening to for the past five years.”

The trial resumes on Thursday.
