Al Jama-Ah is Confident it Has Secured the Future of Kabelo Gwamanda as Johannesburg Mayor Under GNU

Al Jama-Ah is confident it has secured the future of Kabelo Gwamanda as Johannesburg Mayor under the Government of National Unity (GNU), despite earlier reservations about joining a coalition that includes the Democratic Alliance (DA).

This comes as Al Jama-Ah became the tenth party to join the GNU, emphasizing that their decision is aimed at influencing governance at national, provincial, and local levels.

Ganief Hendricks, leader of Al Jama-Ah, expressed optimism about Gwamanda’s tenure, stating that assurances from the African National Congress (ANC) have solidified their confidence in his leadership. Hendricks highlighted the party’s decade-long relationship with the ANC and stressed that Gwamanda’s performance will be evaluated on merit within the political assembly, ensuring continuity if his achievements are recognized positively.

The move follows recent political shifts where former Ethekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda faced repercussions under the GNU, signaling broader changes within municipal governments like Ekurhuleni, where strategic adjustments have been made to maintain majority governance
