Selani’s first victim was Michael Changisa, whom she was dating. In a horrific turn of events, Selani discovered that Changisa had infected her with HIV. Seeking retribution, she conspired with her Zimbabwean lover, Gift Phiri, to end Changisa’s life.

Gift ambushed Changisa while he slept, bludgeoning him to death with a hammer in front of Selani’s young children. The two callously buried Changiss in Selani’s own backyard. Gift then moved in with his Selani.

Undeterred by her first heinous act, Selani later turned her sights on Gift himself, whom she accused of abuse. She teamed up with her own 17-year-old son, Avile Jonjwana. The pair concocted a plan to poison Gift and drown him. They buried his body in a shallow grave on top of Changisa’s remains.

The nightmare didn’t end there. Avile, struggling with drug addiction, attempted to extort her using the two deaths. Selani, showing no signs of remorse, knocked Avile to death with a hammer, and buried him alongside his previous victims.

The shocking case came to light when Selani took her younger son to a traditional healer, unwittingly sparking a chain of events that led to her arrest.

The son was ill and told the sangoma that perhaps the murders by Selani were making him sick. Shocked, the traditional healer reported to the police, leading to Selani’s arrest.

Despite her pleas of innocence, the court found Selani guilty beyond doubt, condemning her actions as cold-hearted and devoid of remorse.

Judge Papi Masopa slapped Selani with three life sentences.
