In a surprising turn of events at Guqukani village in Mphoeng, an 18-year-old girl was arrested while wearing clothes she had allegedly stolen by the owner of the clothes in broad daylight.
Sharon Nyathi faced public humiliation when the rightful owner of the sun hat and shoes she was wearing, Velaphi Ngwazemba, recognized his belongings on her. Nyathi had reportedly stolen these items from Ngwazemba’s home.
Legal Proceedings
Following the incident, Nyathi was taken to the Plumtree Magistrates Courts by the 50-year-old Ngwazemba. She was accused of breaking into his house and stealing goods valued at ZAR 910.
Nyathi appeared before Magistrate Mr Joshua Nembaware, who remanded her in custody until July 1st.

According to the state prosecutor, Selestine Madziwa, the theft occurred on May 29th. Gwazemba had secured his home in the morning but returned in the afternoon to find his bedroom door and windows wide open. Clothes and ZAR 150 in cash were missing.
Gwazemba had no idea who might have done the deed and reported the matter.
Teenager Caught Wearing Stolen Clothes
On June 10th, Gwazemba spotted Nyathi in the village wearing some of his stolen clothes. When confronted, she confessed to unlawfully entering his house and stealing the items.
A police report was subsequently filed, leading to Nyathi’s arrest.

In another case, a woman lost her life recently after she was killed for fallen clothes from a washing line. Two women got into an argument because of clothes that had fallen off a washing line after doing laundry and had a war with words. Afterwards, the accused took offence to the words exchanged and confronted the other woman while at a borehole and that ended up in the accused stabbing the other woman.
