The last video showing the late football star Norman Maroto in hospital before his death has leaked and crushed people online.
“Lumumba” Is No More
The former Zimbabwe Warriors and Dynamos striker passed on in the early hours of Friday, 28 June 2024, at a private hospital in Harare.

Maroto went to the hospital days ago to get treatment for severe flu after coming back from his aunt’s funeral that took place over the weekend in Borrowdale. He suspected that was where he contracted the flu.
After the chatter of his death went viral on social media, the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe, where he was the Communications Manager, and the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) confirmed Maroto’s passing on their handles.
The ex-footballer was very active and engaging on social media. The news of his death hurt people more when they ran to Maroto’s X handle to check his last tweet.
His last-ever post was a picture of him in Zurich, Switzerland, during the FIFA Legends training programme. He was posing for a photo with former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, the FIFA Chief of Global Football Development.
He wrote a gloomy caption:
“It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.”

Fans and football stakeholders have been paying tribute to Maroto and sharing pictures of themselves with him. One social media user shared the last video of the former striker in hospital just before his untimely death.
Maroto took the selfie video sitting in his hospital bed. The ex-star, who was always smiling, had a serious face this time. He showed viewers a patient drip connected to his hand and a view of his room. He had someone giving him company.
Maroto never uttered a word and just showed his surroundings as he fought his runny nose. Watch the sad video below.
