The 40-year-old Nedbank employee was shot dead by a lone gunman in what police are labelling a hit.
The publication can reveal the identity of the woman, shot in full view of bystanders at a bus stop in Fleurhof, as Lungile Habede, a 40-year-old woman who worked for Motor Finance Corporation (MFC), Nedbank’s vehicle finance division.
According to sources, Habede’s work entailed administrative duties for MFC.
In a statement to the publication on Wednesday, Nedbank said they were saddened by the incident and conveyed their condolences to the family.
The lone gunman entered the bus at station five, and when it arrived at station six, he cocked his gun and readied himself.
Habede was first in line to enter the bus, and the gunman fired several shots, missing her as well as others who were waiting to board.
In trying to evade, Habede and another woman fell to the ground.
The gunman approached Habede and shot her twice before fleeing in a white VW Polo that was parked nearby.
No arrests have yet been made.
