7-Year-Old Girl Arrested Together With Job Sikhala’s Allies

On Saturday, five members of the National Democratic Working Group (NDWG) associated with Job Sikhala were nabbed for holding an unsanctioned gathering in Kuwadzana, Harare. Those arrested include Edmore Svinurai, Emily Mwali, Isaya Ndawana, Patience Ndoro, and Regina Aniwute. The arrests took place at Aniwute’s home, where they were holding a meeting. Police whisked the five away together with Mwali’s 7-year-old daughter.

According to a statement from police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the five are accused of holding an unsanctioned gathering and inciting criminal acts. The police identified Edmore Svinurai as the ringleader of the group.

“The ZRP has arrested five suspects from National Democratic Working Group linked to Job Sikhala and led by ring leader Edmore Svinurai for an unsanctioned gathering in Kuwadzana Extension and agitating for criminal acts in the country,” police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said.

In response, NDWG spokesperson Courage Nyathi denied any political motives behind the meeting, stating that their organization focuses on social causes. He explained that the meeting aimed to organize monthly food distributions for the elderly and orphans. Nyathi criticized the police for causing unnecessary alarm, accusing the government of paranoia.

He confirmed to ZimLive:

“Today, the police pounced on the provincial social awareness and safety net meeting and arrested the NDWG leadership gathered to help the elderly and the orphans. They were arrested at the private residence of Regina Aniwute,” he said.
