Gunshots were fired after thieves staged a break-in into President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s private home in the lush suburb of Hellensville in Harare.
The incident happened on July 6, according to ZimLive.
This is the third break-in targeting the Mnangagwa family in about two weeks. There has been incidents at the homes of his son and deputy finance minister, David Kudakwashe Mnangagwa, and his nephew, Tongai Mnangagwa, who is the deputy tourism minister.
The Break-In At President Mnangagwa’s Home
Police officers saw three male intruders fleeing the Hellensville property on Wheeleon Road, which features a sprawling two-story mansion still under construction. Cops fired warning shots, leading to the thieves’ escape.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight, and authorities believe the gang was targeting construction equipment stored at the site.
Following the break-in, police recovered an armoured cable and a copper pipe discarded in the yard. Chinese company Zim Nantong Construction is building the house, which is incomplete after more than five years of work. The property, situated on 25,000 square meters of prime urban land, includes eight cluster houses in various stages of construction.
The Mnangagwa Family On Target
This latest break-in follows a series of similar incidents affecting the Mnangagwa family. On Tuesday, police reported an apparent break-in at the office of Deputy Tourism Minister Tongai Mnangagwa, the president’s nephew. The break-in occurred between July 5 and July 8 at the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority offices, located on the 6th Floor at the corner of Samora Machel and Julius Nyerere. The intruder got into the office through the ceiling.
The ZRP is also probing two incidents at the Borrowdale home of Deputy Finance Minister David Mnangagwa, which occurred on June 23 and June 25. In the first incident, cops found smashed iPads in a backpack left on the roof, with torn papers scattered around. The intruder also cut the headrest from his Range Rover parked in the garage and stole the deputy minister’s Beretta pistol along with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Just two days later, police responded again to the house after Kuda Mnangagwa and his family found three bullets outside his bedroom door, with two more bullets discovered on the lawn. On June 28, a fire broke out at the property, which took hours to extinguish.
During the height of ZANU PF factional fights in 2014, unknown people broke into President Mnangagwa’s government and party offices six times.
