ActionSA in KwaZulu-Natal says the eThekwini Municipality needs a mayor who is not from the ANC. The party says it does not believe the ANC can do anything different to rescue the municipality. The eThekwini municipal council is set to elect a new mayor today, following the deployment of Mxolisi Kaunda to the National Council of Provinces.
ActionSA provincial chairperson Zwakele Mncwango, “We are currently in court with the municipality forcing them to fix the infrastructure, as we speak right now more than 11 beaches are having high E.coli [levels], which means it affects the economy, it affects our investments, it affects our tourism. So definitely, we need someone who can rescue the municipality but we believe that the new government is needed in eThekwini. Not just one individual from the same party that collapsed the city. However, Kaunda welcomed his redeployment and spoke out against critics who have lamented the state of service delivery in the Metro, saying his work speaks for itself.
