As Storms Batter Western Cape, Schools In Cape Winelands And Overberg To Remain Closed On Friday

An intense cold front has led the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) to announce that schools in the Cape Winelands and Overberg education districts will be closed on Friday.

Following discussions with Disaster Risk Management, it was decided that schools in all other districts will reopen.

Education MEC David Maynier explained that the decision to keep some schools closed was made to prioritize the safety of learners and teachers.

“Parents can use the FindMySchool searchfinder on the WCED to confirm if their school falls into these two districts,” Maynier stated.

A total of 217 schools across the province have reported damage or disruptions due to the weather, with 86 cases considered serious.
