The ZIFA Normalisation Committee (NC) chairperson, Lincoln Mutasa, has raised ire after defending the reason he does not watch PSL matches.
He said this during an appearance before the Parliamentary Sports Portfolio Committee on Sports yesterday. He was with fellow member Nyasha Sanyamandwe and ZIFA CEO Yvonne Mapika-Manwa at Mt. Hampden yesterday.
ZIFA Normalisation Committee Chairperson Lincoln Mutasa Has Never Watched A Local PSL Match
Mutasa admitted that he has never watched a single PSL game:
“Even when I was a player, I never went to watch a team [when it is playing]. I am one of those players who wants to play. So without watching, I’m always one to want to play.”
Mhondoro Mubaira legislator Chamu Chiwanza (ZANU PF) was furious, considering the national team is also made up of local players. This month, the Warriors crashed out of the 2024 COSAFA Cup after losing 2-0 to Kenya in the group stages despite beating the Comoros and Zambia.
ZIFA NC chairman Lincoln Mutasa has never been to a PSL match in the last 12 months, the excuse he gave was that he watches the games on television.
When grilled further about not attending matches, his response was: “Is the season over yet?”

Parliament Calls On The Temporary Football Body To Resign
After the hearing, Mhondoro Mubaira legislator Chamu Chiwanza said the clueless committee should resign:
“They are absolutely clueless, and they don’t know what football is. Not even how to run it but they don’t know football in general. As a committee, there is no better way to describe the catastrophe that we saw today (yesterday). We cannot allow our football to be run by clueless individuals with selfish agendas. I expect the chairman of the ZIFA NC to put his resignation with immediate effect.”
FIFA extended ZIFA’s Normalisation tenure by six months after it expired at the end of June. The Normalisation Committee will prepare for the ZIFA elections, which will take place at the end of the year. In 2022, FIFA had suspended Zimbabwe over government interference.
