The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it is shocked that the Freedom Front (FF) Plus has supported the African National Congress (ANC) sponsored motion of no confidence against its Mayor Chris Macpherson, in Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo.
The ANC and FF Plus decided to end their coalition with the DA in the town. The DA says this action not only broke their existing coalition agreements, but also handed the Oudtshoorn Municipality back to the ANC. The DA had in 2021 entered into a coalition government with the ANC, FF Plus, ICOSA and Suid-Kaap Staansaam.
DA spokesperson Willie Aucamp says, “This is furthermore shocking seeing that on Tuesday, our federal council chairperson, Helen Zille and Dr Cornelius Mulder from the FF Plus, had a meeting where it was agreed that the FF Plus and the other parties will not support this motion of no confidence against our mayor.”
“The FF Plus campaigned on a promise to the people that they will support DA coalitions wherever they can in the Western Cape. It is worrying that they now have made a U-turn with regards to that election promise,” adds Aucamp.
