City of Cape Town urges public to work with law enforcement to fight Cape Flats gang violence

The City of Cape Town is urging the public to work with law enforcement to fight the scourge of gang violence on the Cape Flats.

The metro is appealing to the public to report perpetrators who are involved in criminal activities in their areas.

Eerste River, Hanover Park, Manenberg, Mfuleni, Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, and Langa have been identified as hotspots for mass shootings and gang-related crimes.

The City’s MMC for Safety and Security, JP Smith, said there’s a reward for residents who can come forward with information that will lead to the arrests of the criminals.

“Metal thieves, people stealing copper cable, and the variety of other things – we are explaining to them that they can make a telephone call to a discreet number where we will not share information, where we will not divulge the identity, that we are willing to pay a reward for that information.”
