Here Are New Harare Roads to Avoid As Govt Continues SADC Preps

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has announced that two key roads in Harare’s Central Business District (CBD) will experience traffic disruptions due to ongoing maintenance work.

Motorists travelling from Dzivarasekwa, Mabelreign, Tynwald, and surrounding areas should also anticipate delays along Kirkman Road. The Ministry stated that road markings and pavement work will begin on Tuesday, but they did not specify when the work will be completed. They urged drivers to be patient and expect potential delays. Here is the official announcement:

Motorists, please be advised that tomorrow, 30/07/24, there will be traffic disruptions on the following roads due to road markings and pavement laying:

1. Simon Muzenda Street from the intersection of Robert Mugabe to Samora Machel Avenue

2. Kirkman Road from Sherwood to Prince Edward

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and caution as we work to improve our roads. Please plan your route accordingly and expect delays. Thank you for your understanding & cooperation.

Road Upgrades Ahead of SADC Summit

Zimbabwe is upgrading its road network in preparation for the 44th Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit of Heads of State and Government, scheduled to take place in Harare in August 2024.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development is spearheading the rehabilitation of at least 40 roads in and around the city. This includes roads that connect the new parliament building to Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport and Mount Hampden. The work also involves installing street lighting and landscaping.
