The African National Congress (ANC) has clarified that its recent national lekgotla will not override the decisions made at the Cabinet lekgotla of the Government of National Unity (GNU). The ANC’s strategy session, held over several days at Birchwood Hotel in Kempton Park, focused on its members in various government roles, including ANC mayors, premiers, and opposition leaders.
During the session, the ANC pinpointed three critical areas for improvement: enhancing economic performance, better governance in its jurisdictions, and increased responsiveness to public concerns. Acting national spokesperson Zuko Godlimpi emphasised that the lekgotla aimed to align all ANC leaders with the GNU’s outcomes.
Godlimpi stressed the need for a unified approach among ANC leaders, regardless of local variations, to ensure consistency in their objectives and urgency. He also highlighted that the party would intensify its accountability framework, designed to monitor how public representatives are executing the party’s policies within the government.
