GOOD Party Fills Cape Town Council Vacancy With RISE Mzansi’s Axolile Notywala in Strategic Move

In a strategic partnership, the GOOD Party has appointed RISE Mzansi’s Axolile Notywala to fill a vacancy in the City of Cape Town council, marking an unconventional collaboration between the two parties. To facilitate this appointment, Notywala has taken on dual membership, a move that both parties believe will foster discussions aimed at realigning social democratic politics in the region.

Notywala, a prominent social justice advocate and the lead figure in RISE Mzansi’s recent campaign efforts, joins the council as GOOD Party’s choice despite the party having other suitable candidates. “This is part of a process to try to find or strengthen the relationship between the parties and see where that leads. We don’t really have a predetermined outcome,” explained Brett Herron, Secretary General of the GOOD Party.

RISE Mzansi, which did not secure any seats in the recent provincial election, views this appointment as a significant opportunity to gain a foothold in local governance. “It’s a good faith gesture in the context of engagements that took place before the 2024 elections and which we will continue after the elections,” Herron added.

Notywala will be expected to meet the same performance and conduct standards as other council members, ensuring alignment with the party’s rules and expectations.
