Chitungwiza was rocked by horror on Wednesday morning as a 32-year-old man allegedly murdered his ex-girlfriend’s two-year-old son in cold blood after discovering that the mother was at a sleepover.
The tragic incident took place at a house in the Danga area of Zengeza 1, where the toddler was left in the care of his older sisters.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Simbarashe Machipisa, allegedly carried out the heinous act after discovering that the child’s mother, his former girlfriend, was spending the night at another location in Zengeza 5.
The ZRP released a statement detailing the events of that tragic morning:
“The ZRP is investigating a case of murder which occurred on 21/08/24 at around 0600 hours at a house at Danga area, Zengeza 1, Chitungwiza.”
The statement continued:
“The suspect, Simbarashe Machipisa (32), allegedly strangled and repeatedly rammed the head of a male infant (2) onto the floor, resulting in his death.”
A Mother’s Worst Nightmare
The toddler was left at home with his two older sisters, aged 15 and 12 when the mother went for a sleepover. Authorities say the mother had no idea her child would be in danger.
Reports indicate that the suspect had been struggling to come to terms with the end of his relationship. Machipisa allegedly grew increasingly jealous after learning about his ex-girlfriend’s sleepover, which led to the tragic incident.
