Germany has pledged to donate 100,000 doses of mpox vaccine to help combat the outbreak in Africa, according to a government spokesperson. The donation includes immediate support to affected countries, prioritizing delivery to the DRC, Burundi, and other East African nations. In addition, Germany will provide financial aid to the World Health Organization (WHO) and support through the GAVI vaccine alliance. The WHO has declared mpox a global public health emergency, following the virus’s spread from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to neighboring countries. The vaccines, acquired in 2022 and currently stored by the military, will be partly allocated for this emergency, with some reserved for officials traveling abroad.
