Johannesburg Environment and Infrastructure MEC Jack Sekwaila said that the government plans to expand its CBD revitalisation programme to communities throughout the city.
This initiative, designed to rejuvenate the city centre amid concerns of poor service delivery, includes installing street lights and other essential amenities.
While the programme is being rolled out in the inner city of Johannesburg, communities across the metro are yet to benefit from this initiative.
Sekwaila assured residents that their areas will soon reap the rewards of the revitalisation programme.
“We are going to see a real world-class African city, which in my view Johannesburg CBD will be the first example of a world-class African city. After that, when we are happy with the inner city, we will take this programme across the entire city of Johannesburg. Whether Randburg, Fourways, Sandton, Soweto and so on.”
