The Democratic Alliance (DA) and Good Party coalition in Theewaterskloof Municipality has fallen apart, just two weeks after ousting the African National Congress (ANC) and Patriotic Alliance (PA) coalition.
DA mayor Lincoln de Bruyn was removed from office following a motion of no confidence, and Tienie Zimmerman from the Freedom Front Plus has stepped in as the new mayor.
The Freedom Front Plus sided with the ANC, PA, and Good Party to oust de Bruyn. DA provincial leader Tertuis Simmers claims the move was aimed at enabling continued looting in the municipality.
“This comes after Mayor de Bruyn took action to halt the misuse of funds earmarked for Disaster Management. Shortly after assuming office, he uncovered significant irregularities in fund distribution. Speaker John Michels of the Good Party publicly criticized de Bruyn and the DA when he couldn’t secure R150,000 for student travel expenses for a rugby tour abroad.”
