City Power is calling on residents living in and around Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg, to protect its infrastructure after unveiling a new substation.
On Monday, Joburg Mayor Dada Morero and the utility’s CEO Tshifularo Mashava unveiled a new “state of the art” substation intended to cater for future expansion around Eldorado Park, Pimville, and Freedom Park.
The 180 megavolt-amperes substation forms part of City Power’s action plan aimed at providing uninterrupted power supply to Joburg residents.
Mashava has appealed to residents to protect the substation and pay for electricity services.
“As you pay for your services, you then allow us to maintain at the same time. The appeal that we make is that let us not bypass our meters, let us ensure that our meters are functional. Ensure that you either buy if you are on prepaid or we have paid if you are on postpaid,” said Mashava.
The new control room enables us to perform all switching operations safely without putting personnel at risk. It allows for real-time monitoring of all equipment, quickly identifying any faults.
