The Gauteng Department of Health is probing allegations of inhumane treatment at Helen Joseph Hospital.
On Saturday, seasoned broadcaster Tom London, who was admitted to the health facility after a pneumonia diagnosis, shared a video on social media about his alleged mistreatment and the conditions at the hospital.
London’s video prompted others on social media platforms Facebook and X to share their experiences with the treatment given to patients at the hospital.
He claimed the ill-treatment extended from experienced doctors all the way down to interns.
“The doctors that run around here treat the patients like cockroaches. I haven’t seen one doctor in our ward that walks to a patient and says: ‘Good morning, Mr So-and-so, how are you?’”
