Former President Jacob Zuma has announced plans to consult his legal team following his official expulsion from the African National Congress (ANC).
The ANC’s national disciplinary committee rejected Zuma’s appeal on Friday, reaffirming his expulsion initially decided in July. The ruling came after the party found Zuma guilty of bringing it into disrepute by forming and promoting a rival political organisation.
Zuma, a member of the ANC for over 65 years, strongly opposes the decision. According to Mzwanele Manyi, spokesperson for the Jacob Zuma Foundation, “President Zuma rejects the notion that the ANC under Cyril Ramaphosa’s leadership has the authority to expel him from a movement he has served all his life.”
Manyi emphasized that Zuma remains politically active and committed to his social responsibilities.
Zuma plans to consult with his legal advisors, family, ANC representative Tony Yengeni, and political allies to determine his next steps. The foundation assured that once a decision is made, it will be publicly announced by the former president.
In response, Zuma has indicated he will explore legal options to contest the decision, leaving the next steps in his political future uncertain.
