9 people seriously injured and one trapped in a vehicle in Grisly accident, KwaZulu-Natal! A serious road collision involving two trucks and a bakkie occurred on the N3 near the Chatterton offramp in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday morning.
The accident has left nine people seriously injured, one of whom remained trapped in their vehicle.
Emergency Response and Rescue Efforts
The KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service attended to the scene, deploying paramedics and rescue teams to stabilize the injured.

“Paramedics are currently working diligently to stabilize the injured patients, and with the assistance of Fire and Rescue Services, are utilizing specialized rescue equipment to extricate the trapped individual,” said a spokesperson for the service.
Once the patients are stabilized, they will be transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
Tragic N2 Collision Near Fairbreeze
The collision on the N3 follows another tragic accident that occurred on Thursday, November 29, on the N2 near Fairbreeze in Durban. This incident involved a head-on collision between a bakkie and a truck, resulting in two fatalities.
Casualties Confirmed
Samantha Meyrick, spokesperson for IPSS Medical Rescue, confirmed that the driver and one passenger of the light motor vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.
“A third passenger was fortunate to escape with moderate injuries,” said Meyrick.
The truck’s driver and passenger sustained minor injuries and did not require further medical attention.

These incidents highlight the importance of road safety as the festive season begins. To address this, eThekwini Municipality Mayor Cyril Xaba recently launched the Festive Season Management Plan Campaign.

“Our law enforcement officers will clamp down on drinking and driving as well as reckless behaviour on our roads. Law enforcement operations, including multidisciplinary roadblocks, will be conducted throughout the city to combat all forms of criminality,” said Xaba.
