Safari Operator in court over US$170 000 theft
By A Correspondent| A Safari Operator Hamilton Mandizvidza of Falcon Safaris appeared before the Harare magistrates court facing charges of theft of trust property involving US$170 000.
Mandizvidza (44) who is the director of Falcon Safaris appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa who granted him US$500 bail.
The complainant is Pride Murengwe, Director at Market Financial Services Private Limited housed at 53 Samora Machel avenue Harare.
lt is alleged that on June 20 this year accused was entrusted to receive US$295 000-00 into his ABSA account number 1059562 with Falcon Safaris as the account name.
The two parties are business partners for six years.
The money was sent by Foxworth Consulting from United States of America and it was meant for payment of supplies of raw materials and services in Dubai, China and United Kingdom.
Mandizvidza allegedly facilitated the payments on a commission and he made payments worth US$125 000-00 and converted US$170 000-00 into his personal use.
To cover up the offence, accused generated fake proof of payment receipts which did not reach the intended destinations.
The complainant made several follow ups with the accused with no joy and he later reported the matter to the police,
On December 3, a follow up was made leading to the arrest of the accused in Victoria Falls.
The total value stolen is US$170 000-00 and nothing was recovered.
