Zimbabwe kicked off their 2024 COSAFA U17 Boys tournament Group B campaign with a dominant 5-1 victory over Eswatini on Thursday.

The Young Warriors showcased an impressive first-half display, with El Shaddai Sadomba, the son of former Zimbabwe international Edward Sadomba, and Tadiwa Chakuchicha at the heart of their attacking brilliance.

Chakuchicha opened the scoring early with a fantastic solo run and then went on to provide two key assists. Sadomba made his mark with a brilliant first-half hat-trick, starting with his first goal in the 25th minute. He added two more in quick succession, finding the back of the net in the 35th and 42nd minutes.

Substitute Kupakwashe Mazorera came close to extending the lead early in the second half, but his effort was disallowed due to a handball in the build-up shortly after the hour mark.

Valentine Macheka sealed the victory with a clinical finish in the 85th minute, making it 5-0. Eswatini managed to grab a consolation goal in added time, but the match ended 5-1 in Zimbabwe’s favor.

Next up for Zimbabwe is a Group B clash against Zambia on December 7.
