Blood Shortage Hits Zimbabwe Ahead Of Festive Season

By A Correspondent

The National Blood Services Zimbabwe has issued an urgent appeal for blood donations, citing a critical shortage of over 7,500 units needed to meet festive season requirements. The plea comes amidst concerns that blood group O stocks have dwindled significantly.

According to National Blood Services Zimbabwe CEO, Ms. Lucy Marowa, the organization requires at least 7,460 units to meet demand. Despite having collected 88% of their annual requirements, they still need the remaining 12% to cover their needs.

The festive season typically sees an increase in road traffic accidents, which puts additional pressure on the already strained blood supply. In fact, the last two months have witnessed a spike in road traffic accidents, casting a gloomy outlook for the festive season.

To address this shortage, the National Blood Services Zimbabwe has launched the Festive Season Blood Collection Campaign. If you’re eligible to donate, you can visit their donation centers in Harare, including the CBD Static Clinic at Joina City Shopping Mall or the center located at 53 Mazowe Street North, Belgravia .
