Pearl Mbewe breathes fire as she opens up about having so much tlof tlof with HIV-positive Sello Maake kaNcube! Pearl Mbewe, the wife of esteemed South African actor Sello Maake kaNcube, has made explosive allegations against her estranged husband, accusing him of misleading her and the public about his HIV diagnosis and exposing her to the virus.
These claims emerged following Maake kaNcube’s recent interview with the Sunday Times, where he disclosed his HIV-positive status, stating he was diagnosed in 2023 during fertility tests while trying to conceive a child with Mbewe.
However, Mbewe has come forward with a contrasting account, calling out discrepancies in his narrative and sharing her own traumatic experience.
Contradicting Timelines
In an interview with Sunday World, Mbewe revealed that her relationship with Maake kaNcube began with assurances of mutual HIV-negative status.
“Three months after breaking up with my ex, I went for a test to confirm my status. Both my pregnancy and HIV results came out negative,” she said. She explained that when Maake kaNcube told her he was also HIV-negative, she believed him without question.
Their journey to conceive was filled with enthusiasm. “We bonked like rabbits on steroids after tying the knot because he said he wanted a child born in wedlock,” Mbewe shared. Despite their efforts, the couple faced challenges, prompting them to seek medical assistance.
According to Mbewe, the crucial HIV tests were conducted in 2021, not 2023 as Maake kaNcube claimed in his interview. She recalled the moment the diagnosis was revealed:
“When the results came back, the gynaecologist called him to discuss them. He insisted on hearing the results over the phone, and the doctor told him he was HIV-positive. By God’s grace, my results were negative.”
Trauma and Betrayal
Mbewe described the emotional toll of learning about her husband’s diagnosis, questioning his earlier claim of being HIV-negative. Following the revelation, she actively supported him, helping him find an HIV specialist in Sandton who confirmed his diagnosis with a viral load of approximately 7,000 and a CD4 count of 200.
The specialist emphasized the need for immediate antiretroviral treatment and warned Mbewe about the risks of unprotected s.e.x. Despite this, the couple continued to pursue IVF treatments, spending over R150,000 in their quest to have a child.
“It was only last year that we checked to confirm his viral load was undetectable and non-transmittable. He then insisted we proceed with IVF because he desperately wanted a child with me,” Mbewe explained.
Strain in the Marriage
Mbewe detailed how their relationship began to deteriorate after these events. She claimed Maake kaNcube began accusing her of arrogance and a lack of submission, attributing these traits to her “special genes” that supposedly protected her from contracting HIV.
“My sin and the downfall of our marriage was that I didn’t contract the virus,” she said. “If I had also tested positive, my estranged husband would not have started showing signs of envy towards me, calling me the only ‘special woman’ he’s been with recently.”
Calling Out Deception
Mbewe has accused Maake kaNcube of misrepresenting facts in his public statements, suggesting that he is using her to garner sympathy. She alleged that instead of taking accountability, he has painted a narrative that doesn’t align with the truth.
“Sello must stop lying and soliciting public sympathy in my name. I have all the proof to refute his lies. Not in my name!” she declared.
A Public Response Pending
Despite repeated attempts to contact Maake kaNcube for comment, he has yet to respond to the allegations. Mbewe’s account has sparked widespread debate, highlighting the importance of honesty and communication in relationships, especially when dealing with sensitive health issues.
This story serves as a stark reminder of the profound personal and emotional consequences of deception, and it raises questions about the responsibilities partners have toward each other in the face of life-altering circumstances.
