Auxillia Mnangagwa Disrupts Church
By Political Reporter-The First Lady of Zimbabwe, Auxillia Mnangagwa, caused a stir at a Johane Masowe eChishanu Chinhevere Shrine in Chiweshe over the weekend after her security team disrupted a church service, leaving congregants distressed.
Witnesses reported that church members were jostled, shoved, and shuffled to ensure the First Lady’s safety as her team took over the shrine.
The chaotic scenes left many questioning the heavy-handedness of the security personnel accompanying the First Lady, who is known for travelling with an entourage of at least 50 security officers and a fleet of high-powered vehicles.
According to sources close to the scene, the disruption began long before Auxillia’s arrival, with security operatives harassing attendees and thoroughly sweeping the church grounds.
Congregants described the environment as tense and intimidating.
Despite the commotion, Auxillia later took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm her attendance at the service. She expressed nostalgia for the church where she claimed to have grown up, stating:
“Believers are required to uphold the integrity of God’s word and adhere to its precepts. I’m pleased with my upbringing and religious foundation. This last Friday, I was able to visit the church where I grew up, Johane Masowe eChishanu Chinhevere Shrine in Chiweshe, to meet some of the old and new members and spread the gospel to fellow believers.”
She details her dedication to the church and its role in shaping her morals, emphasising her connection to the Chiweshe community.
However, this public relations gesture has done little to quell criticism.
Observers have drawn parallels to her husband, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who travels with a formidable security detail that often disrupts public events.
Critics argue that such behaviour exemplifies a leadership style prioritising personal security over public goodwill.
The latest incident has added to the growing unease among Zimbabweans, who view the first family’s security practices as excessive and a reflection of their detachment from ordinary citizens.
