In a statement, ACSA apologised for the inconvenience caused by the issue and advised passengers still experiencing delays to contact their airlines directly for assistance.
Cause of the Disruption
Speaking to eNCA, ACSA’s Regional General Manager, Jabulani Khambule, provided insights into the root cause of the delays.
“The breakdown was due to a valve that brings fuel into the apron for fueling aircraft. When the shaft broke down, the valve couldn’t open,” explained Khambule.
Khambule clarified that the issue was not due to a fuel shortage but a mechanical failure within the fuel farm system.
“It was just a mechanical breakdown, which we eventually managed to sort out. We are now back online and operating. We are just dealing with a backlog that has been caused by the delays,” he said.
The mechanical failure temporarily halted refueling operations, impacting several flights and leaving passengers stranded. ACSA has assured the public that the system is now fully operational, and efforts are underway to address the backlog created by the disruption.
Passengers Advised to Contact Airlines

The agreement also includes the continuation of discussions over an enterprise improvement program aimed at enhancing efficiency and productivity.
SAA’s interim Chief Executive Officer, Professor John Lamola, emphasized the airline’s commitment to fostering a supportive work environment:
