By A Correspondent

Zimbabwean Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter, Themba Gorimbo, experienced a crushing loss in the UFC on Saturday morning, when he was defeated by Brazilian fighter Vicente Luque via submission in the first round. The fight, held in Las Vegas, was over in just 52 seconds when Gorimbo was choked out by an anaconda trap, marking the fastest anaconda choke in UFC history.

Despite the devastating loss, Gorimbo expressed a resilient outlook on his future in the sport. Reflecting on the defeat, he took to social media on Sunday to share his thoughts with his followers.

“Life has ups and downs. Wasn’t meant to be a straight path to my goal,” Gorimbo said. “I’ve not made it yet to my goal but I am proud but not satisfied with what I’ve accomplished so far.”

The fighter, who hails from Zimbabwe, emphasized the magnitude of reaching the UFC in the first place. “From where I come from to just fight here in UFC is a big accomplishment even though what I want is to become a champion,” he noted.

However, he acknowledged the painful and unpredictable nature of the journey. “It’s a painful path and I guess my story not supposed to be straight walk in the park.”

While the loss was difficult to swallow, Gorimbo remained optimistic. “I am gutted now but excited for the future,” he admitted. “I rolled the dice and didn’t pay off this time. I guess it’s the way life works sometimes. I will dust myself up and make my comeback.”

Gorimbo also drew strength from his faith, stating, “Yes, I am gutted now but I know I will be okay. God brought me this far to succeed and inspire. This is part of the story. It sucks but hey I live to fight another day.”

In his final words, Gorimbo reflected his indomitable spirit: “Mamba out. Mamba will be back.”

Though the fight ended quickly, Gorimbo’s resilience and determination shone through, showcasing his commitment to rise above setbacks. His journey, marked by the tough challenges he has faced, is far from over, and as he said, he will return stronger, with his eyes set firmly on the prize.
