Mai Dhuterere Faces Fraud Charges Over Botched Car Deal
By A Correspondent
Dorcas Vambe, wife of musician Mambo Dhuterere, has been arraigned before a Harare Magistrate on fraud charges for allegedly duping a local politician of $16,000 in a botched car deal ¹.
The Alleged Fraud Scheme
Vambe, 36, allegedly connived with her brother Kudakwashe Vambe, who is still at large, to defraud the complainant. The duo claimed they could purchase a Toyota Hilux GD6 in Botswana and import two cars duty-free, using a waiver allegedly granted to Vambe by President Emmerson Mnangagwa as a token of appreciation for her music.
The Complainant’s Loss
The complainant, interested in the deal, handed over $16,000 to Vambe, who acknowledged receipt and committed to delivering two Toyota Hilux GD6 vehicles within two weeks. However, Vambe failed to fulfill her obligation, leading to her arrest.
Bail and Court Appearance
Vambe was released on $100 bail and is expected to appear in court on January 15, 2025.
